5 Things to Do with your Children At Home

The quarantine life is getting longer. This “new normal” life feels really normal now 😵. Am I right?! I think I am getting used to it and almost worrying about how I am gonna go back to my old normal days.

One thing that I learned from the COVID-19 pandemic : Humans are REALLY adaptive. 👍

I am sure by this time, everyone has some type of routine set with children at home. But my “Learning at Home Schedule” is designed for young children like from toddlers to kindergarteners and this can actually be helpful for parents with young children all year long, even after the quarantine.

If you have a young kid, does s/he go to a daycare, nursery school or drop-in program? Or are you keeping her/him with you at home all time?

I personally think that experiencing a group setting and learning with teachers and peers before going to a formal school is good for toddlers and preschoolers because they will learn social skills.

But there are much more than that we have to think about.

Early childhood is a prime time for developing cognitive skills, physical skills, emotional skills and language skills. And apart from learning skills in different areas, early childhood is the time to continue building a strong bond with your child. You will lose the time with your child more and more as s/he enters the school and grows older. You have to work on building a strong foundation from the early years. The strong foundation will help you to understand your child better, help them better to learn skills and knowledges and become an independent big girl or big boy.

Building a strong bond doesn’t come from just staying together. You need to spend a quality time together for that. Like one-on-one play time with undivided attention.

That’s why I suggest these things to do with your children – cooking, creating, doing yoga and dramatic play together, especially at this quarantine time when everyone is home and you have more time together, but actually for anytime, whenever possible. Although inquiry can be used for one-on-one time as well, I think it is great for developing independent learning skills like thinking skills and problem-solving skills and would leave it for mainly independent play.

For this special quarantine time, I am categorizing most of my activity posts according to those five groups, for the people who might want to use and follow my “Learning at Home Schedule” at this time.

Check my “Blog” section for activity ideas. I hope this is helpful for someone. 😄
