How is your Easter Sunday going, my friend?
Did you do an Easter egg hunt with your child?
Was your child happy?π
Hey, are you left with lots of chocolate eggs at home?
If so, you should try this game.
Well, first of all, we are gonna make some props for the game.π
Make A Nest for Chocolate Eggs
Materials
- Quick oats…..3 cups
- Almonds…..1/2 cup
- Walnuts…..1/2 cup
- Pumpkin seeds…..2 tbsp
- Coconut oil…..1/4 cup
- Salt…..1/4 tsp
- Cinnamon…..1/2 tsp
- Vanilla extract…..1/4 tsp
- Honey/maple syrup…..2 cups
How To
Preheat the oven to 300β.
In a mixing bowl, mix oats, almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, salt and cinnamon.
Into the bowl, add melted coconut oil, vanilla extract and honey/maple syrup.
Check the mixture. We want it to be somewhat moldable. If the mixture breaks apart too easily, add more honey.Β (That’s how I ended up with 2 cups of honey π. But if you don’t want it to be sweet, you can cut.)
If the mixture is ready, make a nest out of the oat mixture with your child.
Place your nests on a baking pan that is lined with parchment paper.
Tip: It’s not gonna be moldable like the Rice Krispies with marshmallows. Just get a full scoop with a spoon and gently transfer it onto the baking pan. And press it down with spoon gently.
Put it in the oven and bake for 13 minutes. Rotate the pan and bake for another 8 minutes or until they get golden brown colour.
This is the photo of my first batch. I forgot the fact that I was using “quick oats” and baked it for too long.
Follow the recipe above. That’s the right time to bake.π
Let them sit for 15 minutes before touching and serving.
*Gently move the granola. They are fragile.π
I also baked the mixture in a loose form as well, not making the shape of nest, because I thought making a nest could be hard for younger children – if you are doing it with toddlers, and I wanted to show you another way to do it. Check how you can still use the granola in loose form for the game. π
Positive Affirmation Game
Materials
Homemade granola nests
Mini chocolate eggs
Yogurt
Positive affirmations written on a piece of paper
How To
Do this game in the breakfast time or a snack time.
Prepare 4 granola nests and add a few chocolate eggs to each nest.
Make two same affirmations as one set. One goes with nest with eggs and the other one goes to your child.
Tip: Feel free to write new affirmations specifically for your child.Β
You place one affirmation for each nest and hide them so that your child can’t see which affirmation goes with which egg nest.
Your child can choose an affirmation for the day and say it out loud.
You give the corresponding nest to your child.
You and your child can change the role and you can choose your affirmation for the day.
Put the granola nest and eggs into your yogurt and eat it!
If you baked your oatmeal mixture in a loose form, ask your child to make a nest on top of her/his yogurt before giving the chocolate eggs.
Learning Goals
β¦ Building independence and confidence by making own nest
β¦ Practicing fine motor skills
β¦ Having quality time together
β¦ Strengthening mom-child bonding
β¦ Building self-esteem by saying positive affirmation
Itβs a very simple baking and game.
It doesnβt need to be complicated to have a good time with your child. Bake a simple thing and pay more attention to what your child says, does and shares. Thatβs what your child needs. π
Happy Easter!π
