Do you make granola at home?
I know I can buy granola from store but I eat granola every morning and the store-bought granola is expensive to do that. If you never tried making granola at home, you should try it. It’s very easy and so much cheaper than buying granola from store.
Before I share my cooking photos, let me show you how you can use this cooking time for a quality time with your child. 😊Because I’m all about quality time.
Book “Miss Maple’s Seeds” by Eliza Wheeler
Read this book with your child.
“Miss Maple’s Seeds” by Eliza Wheeler talks about seeds and a lady who takes care of seeds.
Miss Maple washes seeds, takes them to a field trip, teaches them about world and reads a story in the night. And when the time comes, Miss Maple sends off her seeds “to find roots of their own”.
Miss Maple’s gentle caring of young seeds with soft illustrations makes my heart warm.💛 It’s a great book to read in the chilly fall.
Fun with Seeds
Prepare different kinds of seeds along with other ingredients that you want to put in your granola.
Examples of Main Ingredients
- Oatmeal (I used the quick oats.)
- Sunflower seeds (raw or roasted)
- Pumpkin seeds (raw or roasted)
- Sliced almonds
- Walnuts
- Coconut flakes (sweetened or unsweetened)
These are what I used but you can put whatever you want.
Other Ingredients
- Honey
- Cinnamon powder
- Vanila extract
- Salt
- Coconut oil
Note: If you want specific measurement for each ingredient, you can check this recipe from Cookie + Kate. I didn’t really follow the measurement but I referred to this recipe. (Sorry, I’m not really good at following recipe.😝)
Put the main ingredients separately and let your child observe, feel, smell and taste.
If you want to make this time educational as well, get this flash cards templates.
Print, cut and give your child to match them to the actual seeds.
How To
Mix all the ingredients in a big bowl.
If you like to have lots of clumps of granola, I think you just have to put more honey. I don’t like my granola to be sweet so I put only a little bit of honey and I didn’t get a lot of clumps.
Spread your granola on a baking pan and bake them at 350℉ for about 15 – 20 minutes.
Cool them before you put them in a container.
