*Mini Class video coming at the end
Last week, we introduced fall colours to our children with fall flower, Chrysanthemum. This week, I want to give children an opportunity to explore those fall colours more with a hands-on activity.
Coffee Filter Flowers
Materials
- Coffee filters
- Small jars (more than 4)
- Paints (fall colours)
- Scissors
- White construction papers
- Black marker
How To
Step 1
- Fold a coffee filter in half two or three times. (Depends on how many times your child can or wants to fold)
- Cut the edges with a scissor.
There is no right way to cut here. Let your child try cutting freely on one end. (Just make sure the centre part is not cut.)
- Try making different shapes of flowers. Big or small. Round or spiky.
Tip: Tell your child to hold the centre part with fingers and not to cut that area.
Enjoy this creation process.
Step 2
- When your child enjoyed cutting enough, move on to the next step.
- Fill the small jars with water and give your child paints and a paint brush.
- Colour each jar of water by mixing paint into the water.
If you have liquid watercolour, you can use it here too. It will actually make the water more pigmented and the end product will get more vivid colour.
Feel the fall while playing with these fall colours.
- Fold your coffee filter flowers back and dip it in the coloured water.
- Try mixing colours in one flower.
- Leave the flowers on a flat tray and let them dry.
- When the flowers are dry, open them.
Step 3
Ask your child
where do you want to have your fall flowers?
Let your child draw on a white construction paper and add coffee filter flowers.
Time to be creative!
Do this activity slowly. Enjoy each step and process.
Have time to feel the fall coming.🤎
