Independent Play: Make a Watermelon and Add Black Seeds – with Book “The Watermelon Seed”

The independent play idea that I’m gonna give you today is using play-dough. Play-dough is an easy and fun-guaranteed item. Agree?

If you need to make some time for yourself this week and are looking for something to give to your child to play with, keep reading.🙂

It’s summer so I brought a book about summer fruit.

This book has a funny story of a crocodile who loves watermelon. The crocodile likes to eat watermelon for his breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. One day, the crocodile swallows a watermelon seed by accident. He starts to think of all the things that can happen when the watermelon seed grows inside his stomach. (He has some knowledges about watermelon and he’s good at imagining.🌟) After some scary time, the watermelon seed comes out of his mouth, with his burp. The crocodile starts eating watermelon again.

It’s a short but fun story. Doesn’t it make you want to eat watermelon? Hehe.

The independent play idea is this.

Make your watermelon with play-dough and add some black seeds inside – with black beans!

Watermelon Play with Book “The Watermelon Seed” by Greg Pizzoli

What you have to do is giving some red or pink play-dough with some black beans and my play-dough mat.

I’ll give these play-dough mats with my weekly email next Thursday (July 25, 2024). So if you want to get these, make sure that you join in the Everyday Funday email list before next Thursday.

If you can give different coloured play-dough and different kinds of beans as extra resources, it would be good.

Children love to poke/embed things into play-dough. This watermelon seed play can be a really fun activity in summer time. AND, I’m suggesting this as an independent play. That means, you don’t have to explain about anything. Just give the materials. Your child will find ways to play with them.

I made a short Mindful Moment for fun, too.

One for children and one for you!

You can listen to them on the podcast episode 59.

The watermelon song that I sang on the podcast is

Happy learning and quality time!
