I saw a picture of wire & beads sculpture while I was internet surfing. This looked like a great hands-on activity to practice fine motor skills and spatial awareness.
So I thought about how I can use this idea for my independence-building & creativity-building activity.
Today I’m sharing an invitation to create with you. 🎉
“Invitation to create” is basically a set up of materials. But every part is carefully designed and arranged in a way that draws children’s attention and invites them to create something from the set up materials.
For older children like school agers or children who are familiar with this kind of setup, no explanations are required. But if you want to do it with toddlers or preschoolers who are new to the invitation activities, I recommend giving a question or challenge to help them to start.
Invitation To Create – Picture Frame/Holder
Materials
- Pipe cleaners
- Play-dough
- Beads
- Story and question sign (explained later)
- Other decorative materials you want to try (😉)
What To Do
Set up all materials in a nice way on the table that you want your child to create.
This is how I set up.
Your setup may look different of course. Think about your child’s characters and interests and set up in a way that your child will like.
Put out a question sign beside the materials. (More explanations coming soon)
We are going to give a background story first.
I wrote the story on a cute card but you can just tell this story to your child.
If you want to use my cards, you can get them as well.😊 → Join in the Everyday Funday by July 15, 2021
A question sign can be simply made by you as well if you are not using my cards.
Question is “Can you make a picture frame for B.B.?”
Just write it on a paper and leave it beside the set up.
Now let your child think and create.
I will share my photos from my creative time.
TIP: You can teach a trick like coiling a pipe cleaner to hold a photo if your child seems like having a difficulty with that part.
I truly enjoyed this creating time.😁 There is really a liberating feeling in a free art activity.
Invitation to create is great to give young children because it lets them think, express, try, challenge themselves and develop self-esteem.
Invitation to create or invitation to play is one of my favourite form of activities. I hope you try this and like it. 🙂
