Little Cloud – Puffy Paint Cloud

We had a very fickle weather today here in Toronto. It was sunny one moment then really dark with big clouds. But the sun came back after about 10 minutes and it just continued switching from sunny to cloudy. 🤪

I thought it was a perfect day to read the book “Little Cloud” by Eric Carle.

Book “Little Cloud” by Eric Carle

The Little Cloud changes its shape as it moves across the sky and in the book, the cloud becomes a bunny, a hat and a sheep.

Don’t we all have an experience of looking up the clouds in the sky and thinking that the clouds look like something? 😀Haha. I still like to do this on a nice day. It’s a great way to encourage children to be creative and imaginative.

After reading the book “Little Cloud”, do this art activity.

Puffy Paint Cloud Art

Materials

  • Liquid glue (I guess any kind of liquid glue will work, but I used Elmer’s white glue.)
  • Shaving cream
  • Liquid watercolour / food colouring
  • Paint brush
  • Printout of different backgrounds

How to

  • Make puffy paint: Mix the equal parts of shaving cream and liquid glue in a container.
  • Add a few drops of liquid watercolour or food colouring and mix well.
  • Find the consistency that you like by adding more shaving cream or liquid glue.

I ended up putting a little more shaving cream than the liquid glue in the mixture. However, you have to be careful of putting too much shaving cream since the mixture can be sunk too much when it is dry.

Materials To Make Puffy Paint

I made one container of almost-white puffy paint and one container of light blue puffy paint. (Sorry, it’s a little hard to see the colours in the photos.🥲)

  • Give your child the printouts of different backgrounds, one at a time.
  • Ask to draw clouds on the background printouts with the puffy paint.

My puffy paint clouds look more puffy somehow……… right?😮😃

Puffy paint is a fun material to play with. I couldn’t stop my urge to touch the puffy paint 😅. It seems so smooth, puffy and soft!

After finishing all four backgrounds, put the leftover puffy paint on a surface that is wipeable and let your child play with it. It’s a fun sensory material.🤩

I always love playing with puffy paint and I hope you have fun using it too.
