Manners Can Get You A Cookie | Book “The Duckling Gets A Cookie!?”

I’m gonna be honest with you.

I was craving freshly baked chocolate chip cookies for quite some time, so I planned this week’s activity around chocolate chip cookies. 😜

If we can have chocolate chip cookies AND teach our children lessons, what’s better than that? Hehe.

Book “The Duckling Gets A Cookie!?”

Let’s start with a book.

Book “The Duckling Gets A Cookie!?” by Mo Willems

This is a very famous children book by Mo Willems and you probably read or heard of this book before?

If you read it dynamically and realistically, this book can be very funny for children. (I would say preschoolers!)

It shows a conversation between a duckling and a pigeon.

The duckling asks for a cookie, politely, and she gets a cookie. When the pigeon sees this, she gets upset. Because the pigeon asked for many things but she didn’t get anything. The pigeon complains and complains for a long time, but her mood changes when the duckling gives her cookie to the pigeon.

In addition to listening to a funny story, this book gives opportunity to teach about politeness, asking for reasonable things, unfairness, being kind, sharing and seeing positive side.

After reading the book, talk about these!

Asking Politely

Let’s talk a little more about politeness.

Learn this game and do it together with your child!

Book “The Best Mouse Cookie”

Book “The Best Mouse Cookie” by Laura Numeroff

This book will make a smooth transition to the next activity.

It’s about a mouse making cookies by himself and having the best cookie by sharing it with his friend.

Make Cookies

Now it’s the time to make cookies!

Do you have your go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe?

If you do, you can use that one.

But if you don’t have one, or if you are like me enjoying to try new cookie recipes (😛), you can try this one.

Salted Brownie Cookies

This recipe is from Beyond The Butter.

😨😥😂

As you see, my cookies were not even close to the cookies in the photo of the recipe.

But I understand because I added some more flour to the batter – my batter looked too thin.

And probably I overbaked it.

Taste.

Umm….. as you see in the photo, it wasn’t so great at first.

But! It was good when I tried after about 30~40 min.

The inside was soft.

I will definitely try making them again because I liked the taste of it.

Well, not all the activities (or baking😜) go well all the time.

Just embrace it.😌

We are doing this to have a great quality time with children.

Let’s be that nice person (like the duckling who gave the cookie to the pigeon).

Share your cookies with somebody else.

Have “the best cookie” by sharing your cookies with your friend, too.

Happy learning and quality time!
