Think & Share: Daily Self-Esteem Activity

Improving self-esteem is an important part of our lives. With high self-esteem, we can get back up after falling and continue trying to reach our goals. With high self-esteem, we can protect ourselves from other people’s judgement and live our own beautiful lives.

Children with positive self-esteem are more confident and more likely to be resilient. As they grow, enter the school and go in to the society, children will face various situations and challenges, and we want our children to be able to go through those hardships well with strong self-love and self-belief.

To help your child build a strong foundation, I suggest you to try this Think & Share activity.

I made a question for each day, from Monday to Friday, so that you can work on it everyday. 🙂

Monday

“Think of one thing that you were afraid to do at first but you bravely tried.”

At first, your little learner might not fully understand what it means. Explain it in your own way.

Let’s think about the weekend. Was there anything that you were scared to do?

So what did you do about it? Did you do it? Or not do it?

Help your child think about past events. As they try this activity over and over again, they will understand better and start to find it easy to answer.

When your child comes up with something, restate it for her/him.

Example:

You were afraid to go up to the slide at first, but you tried it with mommy’s help and you could come down the slide by yourself! That was really brave! I am proud of you. You tried even when you were scared. You were brave! Let’s do the bravery dance! 😆

Tuesday

“Think of one thing that you did all by yourself”

Again, help your child to come up with ideas.

Think about this morning. What did you do this morning?

Reinstate your child’s answer and praise it properly.

Example:

After you woke up, you changed your pajamas all by yourself!Very independent.

Wednesday

“Think of a time when someone said “thank you” to you.”

Reinstate your child’s answer and praise it properly.

Example:

I said “thank you” to you when you put forks on the dinner table because you helped me and I appreciated your help. You were very helpful.”

Thursday

“Think of a time when you were kind to someone.”

Reinstate your child’s answer and praise it properly.

Example:

You went to a girl who was sitting alone in the playground and asked to play with you. That was really kind. I am sure that girl was thankful to you.”

Friday

“Close your eyes and look inside your mind. Find one thing that you like about yourself today.”

Reinstate your child’s answer and praise it properly.

Example:

You like yourself feeling so happy this morning. Your happy smile makes other people feel happy, too. I love you. You are a very special person.

Strong self-esteem is developed over time, through many different experiences, struggles and effort.

Use this simple set of questions to prompt critical thinking and build self-esteem in your child. Daily activity will certainly make a difference.

Happy learning and quality time!
