This week, I want to make a “not yet” sign with you.
I wrote a post about “not yet” before and you can READ IT HERE if you want to.
There are clearly things that the answers for them are just yes or no. But also clearly, there are many things that are just “not yet” and the possibilities of “yes” are there.
For example,
Am I in peace with my life? – Not 100%, not in peace every single day, but I’m a work in progress.
Am I a good partner to my husband? – Not 100% yet. We both are working and growing everyday.
Am I satisfied in every part of my life? – Not 100% yet. I’m working on them, one or two at a time. I know I’m doing my best and that’s the right direction to go.
How about for our young children?
Well, for children, there will be more things that are just “not yet”.
Can you read?
Can you dress up all by yourself?
Can you brush your teeth alone?
Can you run fast?
It’s easy to say “no” when the answer is not “yes”.
But it’s important to let our children know that there can be “not yet”. This can be forgotten easily for young children if it’s not reminded again and again.
So how about we make a “not yet” sign and let it be around our children all the time?!
“Not Yet” Sign
Material
- White construction paper / Card stock (3)
- Circle shape to trace
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
- String/yarn
- Watercolours
- Paint brushes
How To
Tip: All steps can be done by children except the string part at the end.
On a construction paper or card stock, draw a big circle. Do it with an object that has a circle shape.
Draw the same circle on the other two papers.
Cut the circles out of the paper.
Decorate the circles with watercolours.
Dry them.
In one circle, write “NO”.
In the second circle, write “YES”.
In the third circle, write “NOT YET”.
Fold the circles in half and open it. We want to make a folding line in the middle.
Glue the three circles together.
Attach a string on it.
Your child can play with the sign or hang it on something.
