Cookie Shop Play

Does your child like to play in the toy kitchen? Kitchen is a fun place to play. Children love to cook things in the kitchen and serve them to their peers.😊 And I think lots of different kinds of toy food are one of the factors that excite children in the kitchen.

Today I want to show you how to encourage your child to be a leader in her/his dramatic play by making toy food. Specifically cookies this time, however, children can use this way to make any kinds of food that they need in their play in future.

I used felt as a main material because it doesn’t break and can be easily used in a dramatic play. But if you don’t have felt at home, you can use regular papers or cardboards.

Materials

  • Felt (or construction papers/cardboard)
  • Scissors
  • Liquid glue
  • Cookie cutters (different shapes)
  • Pencil/pen
  • Scrap papers
  • Decorative materials (confetti, glitters, pompoms etc.)
Materials for Felt Cookie Making

What to do

  • Make a cookie base.

Choose a cookie cutter and trace it on felt.

Drawing a Circle

I didn’t have a circle shape cookie cutter so I just used a candle jar lid. Let your child do the tracing because it will help them to practice fine motor skills and concentration skills.

Cut it out.

Cutting The Circle Out

Make as many cookie bases as you want.

  • Talk about different flavours of cookies.

Talking and listening to each other can create a quality time. Use this theme “cookie” to know about your child and to show that you want to know about your child. 🥰

What’s your favourite kind of cookie?

Why do you like that?

My favourite cookie is ______ because ______.

Are there any other flavours of cookies?

  • Decorate a cookie base with scrap papers, pompoms or confetti.
Felt Cookie Decorating

In a circle, draw one of your cookie.

In the box beside the circle, write the name of cookie.

Tip: If writing a full word is too much, find the first letter of the name of the cookie together and encourage your child to write the first letter in the box.

Making Cookie Shop Menu
  • Take the cookies and menu to the toy kitchen area and play the cookie shop.
Cookie Shop Dramatic Play
