On my way to work on Thursday morning, (oh, I was walking after stopping at a coffee shop), I realized that dandelions all changed their flower petals to seeds. I could see small yellow dots everywhere last week. When did they all change?
These dandelion seeds made me search for a children book about dandelion. And this is what I found and liked.
Book “Dandelion Magic” by Darren Farrell and Maya Tatsukawa
It’s about a boy who found a magical dandelion and made his wishes come true. Sounds simple? Yes, it’s a simple story but there is a part that I really liked in this book and I thought it could make us think about an important question about our life.
If you find a magical dandelion that is the only one in the world, what kind of wish would you like to make?
It’s similar to this question, “If you could wave a magic wand, what would you want?”
Have you ever asked this kind of question to you?
Have you ever thought about it seriously?
Our life is busy and our days go fast. It’s easy to lose sight of our north star and get lost in the busyness of supporting others. Supporting other people who we love and care so much – like family – is important. Actually one of my wishes is being available whenever my family needs or wants me. But even in the family life, I think it’s important to know where I am currently and where I am heading to.
Isn’t it nice to get a reminder for an important question and get to think about it while you are spending time with your child? This book can help you to do that.
Another good way to use this book is teaching and doing the breathing practice with your child.
As you read the book, you are asked to take a breath and blow the dandelion seeds together with the main character. Good to teach your child about the breathing technique and do it for yourself at the same time.
If you would like to have a little bit more time in this daydreaming zone, use my guided mindful moment. You can listen to it in the episode 50 of Teacher Gela Podcast.
Make a reminder
Option 1. Colour the dandelion with any kinds of colouring materials.
Option 2. Squeeze a glitter glue on the seeds.
Tape the reminder wherever you want to see it.
