I found a book from my local library a few weeks ago.
It’s about animal friends playing together in the forest. They face a problem while playing and find a solution together. I like this book because it lets children think about the physical differences of different animals, take different perspectives and think about being compassionate and caring.
So I would suggest after reading the book, to talk about these topics.
Give an opportunity to critically think about things by asking open-ended questions!
What else can we do with this story?
We are having wonderful fall weather here in Toronto and I know many families are spending a lot of time outside, enjoying the neighbourhood walk. While you are walking, let your children pick up some sticks, leaves and rocks.
To make a 3D tree house, you need some play-dough. I just used a recipe that I found from the internet. Mine came out a little bit dry so I recommend you to try different recipes. Google “play dough recipe”. Many recipes will come up. If you have a store-bought play-dough, you can definitely use that, too.
Set up a table with leaves, sticks, rocks and play-dough. I added square pieces of corrugated cardboard to use them as base. You can also add some craft popsicle sticks as a supplement.
I love this art activity because it is hands-on and it allows children to be fully creative!
Do you see a maple leaf taped around a stick in the picture?
It also gives problem-solving opportunities!😃
Children love picking up things from a walk. Go for a nature treasure hunt and try this art activity with all the treasures you found with your children.
Enjoy!
Happy fall!🍂
